{"id":102065,"date":"2025-11-05T17:54:58","date_gmt":"2025-11-05T17:54:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sotnews.agency\/?p=102065"},"modified":"2025-11-05T17:54:58","modified_gmt":"2025-11-05T17:54:58","slug":"the-church-of-pentecost-defends-prison-construction-project-as-an-act-of-compassion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sotnews.agency\/?p=102065","title":{"rendered":"The Church of Pentecost defends prison construction project as an act of compassion"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class='booster-block booster-read-block'>\n                <div class=\"twp-read-time\">\n                \t<i class=\"booster-icon twp-clock\"><\/i> <span>Read Time:<\/span>1 Minute, 33 Second                <\/div>\n\n            <\/div><div>\n<p>The Church of Pentecost has defended its decision to build modern prison facilities across Ghana, describing the initiative as a clear expression of its Christian mission and a practical act of compassion.<\/p>\n<p>The church\u2019s leadership explained that the project seeks to ease overcrowding in Ghana\u2019s prisons and offer inmates the opportunity to acquire trade skills such as carpentry and tailoring, helping them reintegrate successfully into society after completing their sentences.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the correctional centres built by the church are already operational in Ejura and Nsawam, providing improved living conditions for inmates and facilities for vocational training, counselling, and rehabilitation.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Responding to public criticism that the church should have focused on building schools or hospitals instead, the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, said the initiative is deeply rooted in the church\u2019s understanding of the gospel\u2019s call to care for the marginalised.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/sotnews.agency\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/COP-EXPLAIN.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cOur greatest motivation in going to prisoners and building such facilities of comfort is from Hebrews 13:3, which says, \u2018Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison.\u2019 <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd Jesus also said, \u2018I was in prison and you did not visit me.\u2019 So we are visiting them and providing a place for them as if we were in there with them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Aps Nyamekye also said that the church sees everyone, including prisoners, as deserving of dignity and redemption.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cFor us as a church, sinners are our clients, and wherever we find them, we want to go to them. It\u2019s better to make your client feel very comfortable and be at home. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why we are building such facilities for them. We want to make sure that they are not congested.
