The Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, has been arraigned after being accused of interfering with an anti-galamsey operation conducted by the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) near Bronikrom\u2013Hwediem in the Ahafo Region.<\/p>\n

The alleged obstruction took place on Saturday, November 1, 2025, when a group of young people is said to have confronted a NAIMOS task force during an operation targeting illegal mining activities in the area.<\/p>\n

The MP is alleged to have encouraged the confrontation with the task force, an accusation he has firmly rejected.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe went with the Majority Chief Whip and his lawyer. They received him at the CID headquarters and took him through the processes. I received a call not quite long ago that he has been taken to court, and as we speak, he is in court being arraigned,\u201d Majority Leader, Mr Ayariga told Parliament on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet me also indicate that as Members of Parliament, we do not consider ourselves to be above the law. We are always ready to be held accountable for our actions and inactions,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Mr Addo maintains that he went to the scene not to interfere with the operation, but to help defuse tensions and safeguard public order.<\/p>\n
