The Coordinator of Eco-Conscious Citizens, Awula Serwah, has expressed disappointment over the failure of authorities to suspend the Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Ebenezer Addo.<\/p>\n

This follows allegations linking him to last weekend\u2019s violent confrontation between residents and the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) task force at Hwidiem in the Ahafo Region.<\/p>\n

Speaking in an interview on Joy FM\u2019s Top Story<\/strong> on Monday, November 3, Madam Serwah said the seriousness of the allegations warranted immediate political accountability, even before investigations are concluded.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, everybody is innocent until proven guilty, and we must wait for the facts to come out. But I\u2019m disappointed that as of now, the MP has not yet been suspended. We are very concerned about what appears to be selective justice,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The incident in question occurred on Saturday, November 1, 2025, when members of the NAIMOS arrested two men at a mining site near Hwidiem and seized vehicles and equipment believed to have been used for illegal mining.<\/p>\n

The arrests reportedly angered some residents, who stormed the Hwidiem Police Station, demanding the release of the suspects and the confiscated vehicles. The protest turned violent, resulting in damage to property and a temporary breakdown of law and order.<\/p>\n

Subsequent reports suggested that the Asutifi North MP, Ebenezer Addo, may have incited or supported the mob\u2019s actions. <\/p>\n

However, the legislator has strongly denied any involvement, insisting that \u201cas a responsible lawmaker\u201d, his actions were aimed at restoring calm and ensuring due process.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
