After missing out for six straight years, St. Thomas Aquinas books a place in the quarter-finals St. Thomas Aquinas SHS the \u201cOld Toms\u201d have finally broken their prelims curse, sealing qualification to the one-eighth stage after outclassing regional giants Tamale SHS and O\u2019Reilly SHS in a fiercely contested five-round showdown at Auditorium 900.<\/p>\n

The three schools came in with different baggage: Tamale SHS (TAMASCO) had been a seeded school for five consecutive years, O\u2019Reilly came hunting for a shake-up moment, and Aquinas came with a simple mission, break the jinx or go home again.<\/p>\n

After a stiff Round 1 start, Aquinas surged and never let go, finishing the contest strongly ahead of the pack. Final scores across the five rounds:
\u2022 St. Thomas Aquinas SHS \u2014 22 \u2192 30 \u2192 35 \u2192 45 \u2192 51
\u2022 Tamale SHS \u2014 9 \u2192 24 \u2192 27 \u2192 34 \u2192 37
\u2022 O\u2019Reilly SHS \u2014 9 \u2192 9 \u2192 12 \u2192 22 \u2192 25<\/p>\n

For Aquinas, this is more than just a win. Their last time as a seeded school was 2019 and for six seasons they have crashed out early. Today\u2019s victory not only books them a quarter final slot, it also snatches TAMASCO\u2019s seed ending their five-year seeded run.<\/p>\n

Celebrating after the contest, Aquinas made it clear they aren\u2019t just happy to be back they\u2019re coming with force.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople think we\u2019ve been gone, but we are here to make a statement this year and this is only Phase One,\u201d one of the contestants told JoyNew\u2019s Jacqueline Ansomah Yeboah after the win.<\/p>\n

As the quarterfinal stage approaches on Thursday, Aquinas joins the returning elites but this time not as underdogs, but as a school with something to prove and momentum to match.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
