NewsGhana, Latest Updates and Breaking News of Ghana, News Ghana, https://www.newsghana.com.gh/cambodia-orders-ghanaians-out-by-may-31-deadline/Ghanaians and other African nationals living in Cambodia have been ordered to leave the country by May 31, 2026, with authorities warning that anyone who remains from June 1 faces arrest, up to two years in prison and an $8,000 fine.
The directive was issued by the General Department of Immigration under Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior. The notice states that a waiver currently extended to African nationals, including citizens of Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon and Uganda, will expire at the end of this month. Any resolution of outstanding immigration fines or status issues must be completed before that date.
The language of the notice is direct: anyone found in Cambodia after the waiver expires will be arrested at the airport or at any location in the country. Offenders will also be required to pay the $8,000 penalty before being permitted to depart.
Authorities added that from June 1, police will begin actively searching for overstayers across various locations within the country, a move that signals enforcement beyond border points and immigration offices.
The deadline leaves affected nationals with only three days to make arrangements to leave. Ghanaians in Cambodia who have not yet resolved their immigration status are urged to act immediately.
The warning arrives as Ghanaian nationals are simultaneously navigating hostile immigration conditions in South Africa, where a separate crisis has prompted the government in Accra to organise evacuation flights. The Cambodia notice adds a second front of pressure on Ghanaians living abroad, and underscores a broader pattern of African migrants facing tightening immigration regimes in multiple countries simultaneously.
The Ghana Foreign Ministry and Immigration Service have not yet issued a public advisory in response to the Cambodia notice.
