NewsGhana, Latest Updates and Breaking News of Ghana, News Ghana, https://www.newsghana.com.gh/ghana-gets-boston-base-as-fifa-reveals-world-cup-camps/Ghana will base its 2026 World Cup campaign at Bryant University in Boston after FIFA on Monday confirmed the training locations for all 48 nations competing in the tournament, which opens on June 11.
Defending champions Argentina and England are among the sides setting up camp in Kansas City, highlighting the city’s role as a key tournament hub. Argentina will train at the Sporting KC Training Centre, while England will use Swope Soccer Village. The Netherlands will also be based in Kansas City at the KC Current Training Facility, making the Missouri city home to some of the most closely watched squads in the draw.
France, who share Boston with Ghana, will train at Bentley University. The two nations occupy the same host city but are set to meet only if their paths cross in the knockout rounds.
“Team Base Camps are an integral part of the fabric of any FIFA World Cup,” said Heimo Schirgi, Chief Operating Officer of the FIFA World Cup 2026. “They are where teams put down roots, train and recuperate, and experience the day-to-day rhythms of the tournament.”
The record 48 competing teams will have 39 based in the United States, seven in Mexico and two in Canada. Colombia, Iran, South Korea, Mexico, South Africa, Tunisia and Uruguay are confirmed as the seven teams based in Mexico, while Canada and Panama will have their training sites in Canada.
The most diplomatically charged base camp decision surrounds Iran. The Iranian national team, scheduled to play three group stage matches in US stadiums, chose the Mexican border city of Tijuana after the United States made clear it did not want the Iranian delegation spending the night on American soil. Washington was also considering denying visas to members of the Iranian delegation who served in the Revolutionary Guard, which the US designates a terrorist organisation. Iran had originally planned to set up camp in Tucson, Arizona.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed her government’s decision without hesitation. “We have no reason to deny them the possibility of staying in Mexico,” Sheinbaum said during her daily press conference. The Tijuana option also resolved Iran’s transportation logistics, as a flight from there to Los Angeles, where Iran plays two of its three group matches, takes only 55 minutes.
The full breakdown of base camps stretches across 25 communities beyond the 16 official host cities, spreading the tournament’s footprint into university towns, training academies and purpose-built sports facilities from the Pacific coast to the US East Coast. For Ghana, Bryant University in Boston provides the Black Stars with a settled base from which to launch what will be a highly anticipated return to the global stage.
