The operations were conducted on May 20 and May 22, 2026, in Paga and the Navrongo Municipality respectively, as part of ongoing efforts by the Ghana Police Service to disrupt violent crime and drug-related offences in border and inland communities of the region.
The first operation, carried out at Paga within the Ghana-Burkina Faso border buffer zone on May 20, led to the arrest of 40 suspects comprising 28 males and 12 females. The suspects included 23 Ghanaians, eight Nigerians, six Burkinabè nationals, one Malian and one Togolese national. Exhibits recovered included parcels and sacks of suspected narcotic substances and five motorbikes believed to have been used to distribute drugs across the border area.
A second intelligence-led operation on May 22 targeted identified criminal hotspots within the Navrongo Municipality, including locations known as the Condemned Road Corridor, After Six Spot and Lighter Inn Spot. That operation resulted in the arrest of 34 additional suspects, comprising 32 males and two females. Police recovered 11 motorbikes, quantities of suspected narcotic substances and assorted foreign cigarettes from those locations.
Following the Navrongo operation, 34 suspects were arraigned before High Court Two on the same day before Justice Ernest Pascal Gemadzie. The court remanded 16 of those suspects into police custody, with their next court appearance set for June 4, 2026. The remaining 22 suspects are being profiled for further action. All 74 suspects across both operations remain in custody assisting investigations.
The Ghana Police Service said security agencies are continuing efforts to identify and arrest additional individuals linked to criminal activities in the affected communities.
