Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has announced plans to fence the remaining portion of the Borteyman Sports Complex to prevent encroachment on the government-owned land.

The Borteyman facility, which played a key role during the 2023 African Games, sits on 99 acres of land.

Out of that, 43 acres have been developed for the current infrastructure, with the remaining portion earmarked for future expansion.

Speaking to the media during an inspection of the site, the Minister revealed ongoing efforts to secure the undeveloped land in collaboration with relevant bodies, including the Local Organising Committee (LOC) and its Executive Chairman, Dr Kwaku Ofosu Asare.

“I will be engaging other agencies because the LOC chairman has made me aware that they had some arrangement to get the 48 engineers to do some walling,” Adams said. “That arrangement is to open, so we will have further engagement with them to see to it that, while we are waiting for other resources to continue the construction, we cover the unused space.”

“We will wall it in order to block people from doing what they are doing. Maybe it’s because it isn’t walled that people think it’s a no man’s land. This is not part of a no man’s land.”

The Minister stressed that the land is government property, and reaffirmed that it will be used solely for sports development purposes.
